Working Towards a Sustainable Future

Friends of Liberia Food and Water at a Glance

Friends of Liberia Food and Water works to provide food and clean water to people that do not yet have access.  We started our mission in 2016 with a goal of providing clean drinking water to the poor people of Liberia. We hand dug one well each year for four years. In 2020 we heard about a manually operated drill, manufactured in Utah by www.villagedrill.com. We started drilling wells in June of 2021 and have drilled over 130 wells as of July 2023. These wells provide clean water to over 200,000 villagers throughout Liberia.

What We Do

Making A Difference

Well #2-2_edited.jpg

Universal Food

We have expanded to work with villages on growing rice. We provide tools, fertilizer, seed rice and training on how to put in irrigation systems. Our goal is to provide a sustainable future for each village where they can grow rice to eat and continue to replant in the next growing season. We also want them to have a sense of ownership so we ask each village to give us a portion of the harvest in return for the well and farming expenses. This also helps us continue our mission.

Clean Drinking Water

Our dedicated team based in Liberia uses a human powered drill to bore a well deep into the aquifer and provide a long term water source for each village.  Most of our wells are located far from power, so we rely on the ingenuity of the Village Drill – https://villagedrill.com/ to dig wells deep into the ground. This not only provides long term water but eliminates the dangers associated with hand digging wells.

Purpose

We know the body needs food and water for nourishment however the soul needs a sense of purpose.  We have recently completed the construction of a rice processing plant.  This plant will be able to employ people in the area, process rice from local farmers and allow them to earn an income that can be used to improve their way of life tremendously. It will also allow us to make money to continue our work and hopefully increase our speed.
